John Underwood’s Backstory did a story on urban coyotes in Western Orange County, including Rossmoor, Seal Beach, and Los Alamitos back in 2007.
His piece is very informative and presents a balanced leading to a more aggressive approach than is supported by Orange County Animal Care or the State. When we have enough sighting data supporting trapping/killing activity, we should be able to get some support from them. We need to be able to show not only that we have a safety concern, but where the best place to place the traps if trapping permits are issued.
The report continues to support a change in our behavior by removing as much of the food sources we can from around our homes and neighborhood. This includes keeping our pets indoors most of the time and not leaving pet food outside. You can discover more ways to keep your home see more here.
- Since this video was produced, leg-snare/leg-hold traps are not not legal in California.
